The City of Edmonton has activated its extreme weather response for poor air quality on Friday, that will remain in effect until July 15 at 8 a.m. “Take a break from the smoke by temporarily relocating or finding a location in your community with clean, cool air such as a library, shopping mall or community centre.” To prevent health effects the public is advised to limit the time they spend outdoors, keep indoor air clean by closing windows and using an air purifier with a HEPA filter. Temperatures continue to sit in the mid-twenties throughout the weekend but with the beginning of the work week comes cooler temperatures and possibly some precipitation.įor now, as recommended by Environment Canada, reduce your exposure to smoke because it can be harmful your health even at low concentrations.Įnvironment Canada warns that “people with lung disease (such as asthma) or heart disease, older adults, children, pregnant people, and people who work outdoors are at higher risk of experiencing health effects caused by wildfire smoke.” The smoke is expected to linger into the beginning of the weekend.
